What an awful thing to go through. Camila Mendes admitted that she was sexually assaulted in college in an interview with Women’s Health published on September 9. The outlet noted that she has “to build a home” tattooed above her rib, and she actress said she got it following her first year in university. “I got the tattoo after my freshman year,” she said. “I had a very, very bad experience; I was roofied by someone who sexually assaulted me.”

After the incident, the Riverdale star decided to work toward things in her life that would make her “safe and comfortable — the qualities she imagined in an ideal physical home,” according to the outlet. She also revealed that it’s important for her to stay in touch with her body. “Whenever I feel like I’m going through something difficult, I think about what I can do physically for myself,” Camila, 25, said.

In June, Camila revealed that she also once struggled with an eating disorder. “I started seeing a therapist and started getting serious about recovery was when I couldn’t get through a fitting for Riverdale,” she told model Candice Huffine during the 2nd Annual POPSUGAR Play/Ground event in New York on June 22. “I’d be in a fitting, and they’re usually about two hours long … It’s two hours of trying on clothes. It’s a lot. It can be overwhelming. Especially because you’re not shopping for yourself, they’re shopping for this character … I got to a point where I couldn’t even get through a fitting because 30 minutes in I was crying in the fitting because I was like, ‘Why don’t things fit me a certain way?’ When it got to that point … I got help.”

Thankfully, it seems like Camila is doing a lot better these days and has seeingly healed from some very traumatic experiences in her life.
