Following pop icon Michael Jackson’s death, his mother Katherine, now 87 years old, was appointed as the legal guardian of his three children, Paris, Prince, and Blanket Jackson. And while Blanket, the youngest of the children, is still under 18, unlike his older siblings, Katherine has reportedly started the process of legally resigning as the 15-year-old’s guardian.

In court docs obtained by E!, it says that the grandmother is “no longer needed to fulfill the duties” that were needed in the years following Michael’s sudden death. This resignation of guardianship will not leave Blanket on his own, however. TJ Jackson, Michael’s nephew, was given joint guardianship of his cousins. So, as his grandmother resigns, she “feels that TJ is able to assume all necessary responsibilities of the guardianship” for Blanket. Though there have been motions made, there has been no official ruling from a judge.

As In Touch revealed back in May, the transition process of Blanket’s guardianship has been going on for a while, as big sister Paris wanted to become his guardian. “Paris thinks her grandma is just too old to care for Blanket properly,” an insider said. “She likes TJ, but thinks she can do a better job than anyone else.” Paris, now 19, has gone through her fair share of issues, admitting to drug use and suicide attempts, but the source confirmed she  “finally got her priorities straight and is surrounding herself with the right people.” Clearly, family is important for the Jackson squad. “Her dad’s wish was always to keep the family together,” the source continued. “And that’s exactly what Paris is going to do.”

Just last month, Paris and big brother Prince, 20, went to their cousin Siggy’s wedding and looked amazingly grown up! Siggy, the son of Michael’s brother Jackie, couldn’t help but gush over his little cousins.  “I’m so honored proud and blessed to be able to say that they are my family,” he wrote on Instagram. “This is what family means my cousins held me up and together for my wedding and let my wife know that she is family. Paris and Prince beautiful and handsome and I’ve been blessed to have them in me my wife and children’s Lives. I love you [two] anytime any place always family first. I love you.”
