This is so lovely. Ariana Grande shared a couple of throwback photos on her Instagram Story featuring herself and her late ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller, on what would have been the rapper’s 27th birthday on January 19.

The “Thank U, Next” singer let the photos speak for themselves, and opted not to include captions. The first post featured black and white shots of Ariana, 25, and Mac looking at each other and smiling. The second showed them hanging out on some sort of beach, and both were likely taken during their relationship. You can see the bittersweet photos for yourself below.

In May, Ariana and Mac broke up after being together for two years. They remained friends after, and Ariana still seemed to care deeply for him even after she moved on and started her relationship with Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson — which also came to an end in October. But sadly, Mac died on September 7, 2018, from “mixed drug toxicity,” that included “fentanyl, cocaine, and ethanol,” and we can understand why Ariana might be having a tough time with what would have been his next birthday.

A source told Us Weekly that Mac’s family, “wishes that he could be at home celebrating his birthday with them and being the center of attention like he always was, but they know he is still there in spirit with his big ol’ smile. It’s going to be a hard day for the family.” And the same is likely true for the “God Is a Woman” singer.

This is not the first time Ariana has honored her ex on the social media platform. At the end of 2018, the performer posted a heartfelt tribute to the late rapper to her Instagram Story but eventually deleted it. It was a video of the “Self Care” singer playing the piano, and we aren’t sure why she took it down, though it was totally her right to do so.

Rest in peace, Mac. You are clearly very missed.
