Just days after Twitter lit up with accusations that Amber Portwood abused her fiancé, Matt Baier, the Teen Mom OG star has spoken out, and set the record straight about the ordeal.

The 26-year-old’s statements come after several tweets were published showing a beaten and bloody Matt, with one Teen Mom blogger claiming that it was the result of Amber laying a hand on him.

“Five years ago, I made the decision to choose prison over rehab in order to fully turn my life around. Since then, I’ve worked hard to make serious changes for myself, for my daughter, and for all the fans who supported me,” she said to E! News. “I’m saddened by the latest rumors, which are both of untrue and unfounded, but plan to continue to stay focused on my recovery and being the best person I can be for everyone in my life.”

Smarty Jones, the blogger and radio host who leaked the pictures, claimed that Matt had sent them to women he was interested in as “proof” that he and the mother-of-one were really over. Matt, however, has since said that while it is him in the picture, the injuries were caused by “roughhousing” with his pals — not the woman he plans to marry.

“The rumor that’s circulating is both vicious and completely false,” he said in a statement. “I can’t standby and allow the media or anyone else undermine the progress that Amber has made in turning her life around, or the relationship we’ve worked hard to build together.”

He continued, “The photo that surfaced is nothing more than the result of some roughhousing amongst my guy friends. I got my butt kicked by a friend, and it was well-deserved, I might add. Now someone’s trying to use the pic to paint an untrue picture of our life together.”

Of course, this area is especially contentious due to Amber’s history; in 2010, she was charged with domestic battery after she was seen striking her ex, Gary Shirley, in front of their daughter Leah on an episode of Teen Mom.

If you or someone you know is struggling with abuse, you can call the National Domestic Violence hotline by calling 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).
