Aaron Carter Came From a Famous Family: Get to Know Late Singer’s Parents, Siblings and More
The late Aaron Carter came from a well-known family in Hollywood. The “I Want Candy” singer died at age 34 on November 5, 2022, and his siblings shared heartfelt tributes via social media.
“My heart is broken. Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded. I have always held on to the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed,” Nick Carter wrote via Instagram following his brother’s death. “Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss, but the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here. I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know.”
The Backstreet Boys member might have been Aaron’s most famous family member, but the singer had other relatives who the world got to know on the family’s 2006 reality show, House of Carters.
Who Are Aaron Carter’s Parents?
Aaron was the son of Robert and Jane Carter, who divorced in 2004. During their marriage, Robert and Jane welcomed five kids together: Nick, born in 1980, Bobbie Jean, born in 1982, Leslie, born in 1986, and twins, Aaron and Angel, born in 1987.
The family’s life was documented in the short-lived E! series House of Carters, which aired for one season in 2006.
Robert died in May 2017 at age 65.
“I am heartbroken to share the news that our father, Robert, passed away last night,” Nick shared on Twitter at the time. “While we learn more about the cause of death, and begin the grieving process, we ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time.”

The eldest Carter sibling, Nick, is also a singer as a member of the Backstreet Boys.
Aaron’s sister Bobbie Jean — who was arrested in June 2023 for allegedly stealing arts and crafts from a store while also in possession of fentanyl, In Touch confirmed — stepped out of the public eye after House of Carters. On December 23, 2023, Jane confirmed that Bobbie Jean had died unexpectedly. She was survived by an 8 year old daughter, Bella.
“I am in shock from learning of the sudden death of my daughter Bobbie Jean,” Jane said. “I will need some time to process the terrible reality of this happening for the third time. When I am able to think clearly, I’ll release a fuller statement, but until then I would request to be left to grieve in private. However deeply a parent feels the loss of a child, the suffering of a young child at the loss of a parent must be much greater. So, I would ask the sympathetic to say a prayer for my precious 8 year old granddaughter Bella, who previously lost her father and is now also left without her mother.”
Aaron’s sister Leslie died at age 25 in January 2012 following a drug overdose. Lastly, Aaron had a twin sister named Angel, who mourned him with an Instagram tribute after his death.
“To my twin… I loved you beyond measure. You will be missed dearly,” she captioned her post. “My funny, sweet Aaron, I have so many memories of you and I, and I promise to cherish them.”
It’s also been reported that the Carters have a half-sister, Virginia Marie, from their father’s first marriage. They also have a stepsister named Taelyn Dobson and half-brother Kaden Brent Carter, who came from his father’s last marriage to Ginger Elrod.

How Did Aaron Carter Die?
Life & Style confirmed the “Aaron’s Party” singer died from a combination of difluoroethane and alprazolam.
According to the Los Angeles County Coroner, Aaron used alprazolam – a drug that causes drowsiness and sedation and difluoroethane – a gas used commonly in air spray cleaners – before entering a bathtub where he was later found dead in November 2022. The substances left him incapacitated, therefore causing him to be submerged underwater. His official cause of death is listed as drowning as a result of the drug combination and ruled an accident.
