She’s being honest. 90 Day Fiancé fans are just getting to know 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days star Hazel, and she recently opened up about a painful part of her past. During her first-ever meeting with her boyfriend Tarik‘s brother Dean, Hazel was questioned about her relationship with her ex, and she also was forced to reveal the reason why she no longer has custody of her son.

During his interrogation, Dean asked Hazel if she has any children and she said that she has one, a son. Dean asked why her son wasn’t with her and she told him that her son is with her baby daddy.

“My son lived with me when he was three years old. I love him but I didn’t have enough money and so I give my son to his father,” Hazel revealed. “If I have a good future with Tarik, I want to get my son again.”

But it seemed to not sit well with Dean that Hazel gave up custody of her son. “It says a lot about a woman depending [on] how hard she fights for her kids about that woman’s character, you know?” he said.

Tarik got upset that Dean was implying that Hazel had some type of character flaw and he got up to leave, which then lead to a fight between Dean and Tarik. But it seemed like Dean was trying to get a read on what type of mother Hazel is, because Tarik is a parent as well. Tarik is a father to a five-year-old little girl named Ariella and she has high-functioning autism. If Tarik and Hazel’s relationship works out the way they both plan, they will get engaged and then apply for the K-1 visa, or the fiancé visa, so that Hazel can enter the United States and marry Tarik — which means she will also be a stepmother to Ari.
