Meryl Streep is in full promo mode for The Devil Wears Prada 2, which has meant spending less time with boyfriend Martin Short.
However, a source exclusively tells In Touch that the two are still going strong and already looking ahead to spending time together once her schedule calms down.
“Meryl and Martin have a complex dynamic because they do not refer to each other as ‘boyfriend’ and ‘girlfriend’ per se,” the source says, adding that “they have an incredibly close, intense relationship” and will “probably spend the rest of their lives together in some way or another.”
The source adds that this has been a difficult time for Short, 76, who lost his daughter, Katherine Short, to a self-inflicted gunshot wound in February. However, he still wants to stay focused on his career.
“He still loves his show business career and he’s constantly pushing that forward, even amid the extreme grief over his daughter’s death,” the source shares.

“Nobody is forcing Meryl to do all this promotion for The Devil Wears Prada 2,” the source continues. “She has famous costars like Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt who are happy to go do interviews and talk shows. But Meryl is doing it because she loves the project and because she hasn’t had a big movie in cinemas in years.”
According to the source, Short has fully been supportive of 76-year-old Streep’s busy schedule.
“Martin is an intelligent, undemanding person and Meryl is putting herself out there with his blessing and support,” the source explains. “When the movie is released in May and it’s a hit, then Meryl and Martin can retreat to one of their homes and be together to savor the success.”
Neither Streep or Short are “allergic to the spotlight” due to “everything they’ve been through, together and individually.
“Meryl is going to have her moment,” the source concludes, “and then they can relax and enjoy each other’s company for the entire summer.”
