Get to Know Kelsey Owens, the Breakout Star of MTV’s New Series ‘Siesta Key’
After the mega success of Laguna Beach, MTV is introducing fans to another show based in a beachside town with its own mess of drama — Siesta Key! It’s an island off the coast of Sarasota, FL and while most members of the cast are from there and have returned to their home for the summer, there’s a new girl in town named Kelsey Owens and she’s quickly becoming the breakout star of the new series. Kelsey is a fashion model.
The Saint Louis native signed with Mother Management back in 2013 when she was 16 years old, and her career has taken her to major fashion cities like New York, Milan, and Paris. She opened up about her career in a video interview for the agency’s YouTube page. “Nothing’s like your first time walking fashion week. I remember it went by so fast — everything’s changed so much in the past year. The industry isn’t what you expect, there’s so much more to it and I’m just so happy I did it.”
She moved to Siesta Key to take care of her mother.
Her mother Debbie was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis so Kelsey feels like it’s her duty as a daughter to be near her mom and help her through her day to day tasks. Even though Debbie seems grateful for her daughter’s help, she also wants Kelsey to enjoy her youth and she pushed her to make friends and have fun this summer.
She’s a fitness fan.
Along with her polished modeling shots and snaps from her nights out, Kelsey also likes to share photos of her workouts which include time spent at the gym and hiking outdoors. “A lot of the time girls post photos all done up after spending hours getting ready (including myself) so here's a photo of me switching it up. No makeup, bed head, covered in sweat, and happy as ever!” she captioned a recent gym selfie.

She has a boyfriend.
Garett Miller is a certified personal trainer — with the body to prove it — so it’s natural that Kelsey would be drawn to him. He’s also a newcomer to the Siesta Key cast’s clique, but it looks like he’s been accepted into the group because of Kelsey — and it looks like he’s here to stay. She gushed about him in the caption of an adorable couples’ selfie, writing, “Lucky to have you…not just as a boyfriend but a best friend.”
