He’s not a creep! Alan Cox and his wife Kirlyam Cox were one of the first couples to star on TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé, and they were introduced to viewers way back during Season 1. In their intro, the couple briefly explained how they met and fans were pretty weirded out by how young Kirlyam was when she met her future husband. But now that they don’t think they’ll return to the franchise for another season, Alan and Kirlyam are using YouTube as a platform to continue to tell their love story their own way — and they decided it would be a good idea to start from the beginning and clear up some speculation.

“We want to make this very clear,” Alan said in the video. “There was no romantic relation at all when I was on my mission and anyone who thinks that or led to believe that — cause we never said that — it’s absolutely, completely bulls–t.”

“Please, if you want to know the truth — that’s the truth,” Kirlyam added. “We didn’t have anything when we first met, and for like six years after we met. So don’t believe everything you read on the Internet. If you want to know the truth, ask us.”

Their love story goes like this: Kirlyam’s family joined the Mormon church when she was around 11 years old. About a year later, the family met a group of American Mormon missionaries in Brazil, and Alan was part of the group. Kirlyam was about 12 years old and Alan was about 20 years old when he became friends with Kirlyam’s family. Time passed, Alan went to college and dated other people, and Kirlyam dated as well.

They didn’t meet up again until about eight years later when a member of one of the families that Alan met while he was on his mission in Brazil was getting married. Alan was invited to the wedding, so he made plans to travel to Brazil and he got in touch with some of the other families he was close with while he was abroad — including Kirlyam’s family. Kirlyam said she always thought Alan was cute and she never thought that she would ever date him — but they ended up hitting it off, and the rest is history.
