Watch out Michael Phelps, there’s a new sensation on the men’s U.S.
swimming team.

Ryan Lochte brought home the first U.S. gold medal this
morning at the 2012 Olympic games in London.

Ryan dominated the first round of his rivalry with teammate Michael
Phelps— beating him by more than four seconds — in the
much-anticipated 400-meter individual medley.  Michael failed to
place, coming in at fourth, raising questions of whether or not the
14-time gold medalist still has what it takes to bring home Olympic
gold.

"I put the work in," Ryan told reporters after the race. "I'm just
going out there and having fun, and doing what I do best."

However, there appears to be no hard feelings.

Congrats to @ryanlochte,” Michael tweeted earlier today.  “Way to keep
that title in the country where it belongs!!”

The two men have plenty more chances to win gold, but they’ll only have the chance to go
head-to-head one more time, in the 200-meter individual
medley on Thursday.
