Reese Witherspoon just shared the first picture from the set of her upcoming movie Wild.
In the movie, which is based on a true story, Reese stars as writer Cheryl Strayed, who impulsively decided to hike the 1,000+ mile Pacific Crest Trail by herself, despite not having much experience in the wilderness, as a way to cope with major tragedies in her life including a divorce.
"So excited to play @cherylstrayed in a movie!" Reese wrote next to the pic, which shows her in character wearing hiking clothes and a backpack.
And the feeling is mutual! Author Cheryl recently wrote on her Facebook page, "It's an extraordinary experience to see Reese Witherspoon dressed in the clothes I wore on the trail, her hair the same style and color as mine then, with my beloved/loathed Monster on her back packed just the way I packed it. I'm humbled and awed and so excited for you to see the movie!"
The book was a best-seller and an Oprah's Book Club pick. Laura Dern has just signed on to play Reese's character's mom. Cheryl has also been an advice columnist and wrote a second book, Tiny Beautiful Things, of her best advice.
It looks like 37-year-old Reese has been quite literary lately. In addition to starring in Wild, her Type A production company is producing Gone Girl, based on the popular book by Gillian Flynn. Though Reese won't actually be appearing in that flick, she's brought in Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike to play the lead roles.
