Lindsay Lohan is finally making steps to turn her life around. After her release from rehab earlier this week, the 27-year-old actress, whose movie The Canyons opens this weekend, hired a sober coach to help keep her away from temptation. She's also trying to make some new friends who embrace her healthier, sober way of life.
One of those friends is Olympic athlete Shannon Rowbury. Shannon (pictured below) is a track and field star who competes in the 1500 meters and was a member of the US Olympic team at the London Olympics last summer. The two struck up an unlikely friendship when Shannon was doing an appearance at a Niketown store in San Francisco and Lindsay came in to shop. They stayed in touch via email throughout Lindsay's stay in rehab.
"Ideally, I would like to help her take better care of herself and certainly running and exercise in general is a great way to start," Shannon told In Touch about her friendship with the Mean Girls star. The two have reportedly been emailing about health and fitness tips, and Shannon is optimistic about Lindsay's future. "Lindsay struck me as a very sweet and intelligent young woman. She will pull herself up and find success in life."
And the friendship is anything but one-sided. "It's totally bizarre and they are not two people you'd think of as friends," a source told In Touch, "but Lindsay has been appreciative of Shannon's support."
