Lea Michele, Ryan Murphy, and the rest of the Glee cast and crew gathered to say goodbye in a memorial service to their fallen co-star Cory Monteith.
On Thursday, everyone reunited at the Paramount Studio lot, where Glee is filmed, to celebrate the late actor’s life in an “emotional” celebration.
“Today, Ryan Murphy and Lea Michele gathered the cast, crew and producers of Glee, along with colleagues from the network and studio, to share memories and music in an emotional celebration of the life of Cory Monteith,” Twentieth Century Fox TV shared with In Touch. “We thank the public for their continued outpouring of love and support as we grieve our friend and colleague during this difficult time.”
As previously reported, Cory, 31, was found dead in his room at Vancouver’s Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel after missing his checkout time. He died from an overdose of heroin and alcohol.
Last week, Ryan opened up about the future of Glee and how he is allowing Lea to take the lead on how to move forward with the show.
“Lea blessed every decision,” the executive producer told Deadline.com. “I told her even I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to write about the death of someone I love. She wanted people to be together. She and Cory were the young leads of that show, the A story. Lea has been a leader all through this difficult process.”
As of right now, the plan is that the show must go on. The fifth season will begin with two Beatles tribute episodes that were written in May. The third episode, which still is not written, will then handle the death of Cory’s character, Finn Hudson, while paying homage to the late actor. Following the third episode production will shut down so the producers, writers, and actors can decide what to do with the future of the show.
"It has been a very difficult rollercoaster ride,” Ryan reveals. “All through that, and through the last week, Lea has been the most brave and courageous person I've ever met. She has dealt with an impossible situation with more humanity than you could ever hope for."
Glee will resume production in early August. The fifth season premieres September 26 on Fox.
