One look at 90210 star AnnaLynne McCord and one may be captivating by her bouncing, blonde hair and big, beautiful smile—so it’s hard to imagine that the 26-year-old starlet has a dark past.
However, AnnaLynne has been vocal about being sexually assaulted and at the Somaly Mam Foundation Life Is Love Gala—which was held in New York on Oct. 23—the actress opened up about how the difficulties and trauma that followed.
“I was suicidal, I cut my arms up,” she confessed on stage at the gala. “I had a bottle of pills in a hotel and I was ready to end it all. But something, I don’t know what, led me Somaly Mam.”
Somaly Mam is a survivor of modern sex slavery, and created the Somaly Mam Foundation as an effort to end modern slavery and empower those who have been trafficked.
AnnaLynne has worked closely with the foundation; she has even gone to Cambodia and calls the young women she’s met her “heroes.”
As AnnaLynne stood bravely on the stage next to the hero that founded the foundation—the blonde-haired beauty confessed that that Somaly’s life saving has impacted more than just the young women in the brothels; for AnnaLynne—it’s personal.
“Is there five dollars that you don’t need that you can give to the people who saved me my life,” she asked. “The people who rescued me.”
