What’s it like being the most followed person in the universe on Twitter?
Pretty darn great if you ask Katy Perry.
As of Feb. 1, the “Dark Horse” songstress has 50 million followers, making her the most popular person – sorry, Biebs! – on the Twittersphere.
The stunning brunette took some time out of her busy day to highlight the big milestone over the weekend.
Oh yeah AND we grew to 50 million Katycats! Eh, regular day at the office.— Katy Perry (@katyperry) February 1, 2014
Katy stole the crown from Justin Bieber, who’s not trailing too far behind her with 49.4 million Beliebers, in November.
(But by the looks of his recent behavior, we can’t see him playing catch up anytime soon!)
He had earlier knocked out Lady Gaga, who for two years was the most followed person. She now sits in fourth place with just over 41 million Little Monsters.
President Barack Obama hangs in third with 41.2 million.
Also joining Katy on the social network is boyfriend John Mayer.
He rejoined on Jan. 31 after quitting the 140-character platform in 2010.
I'll be honest, when it came to rejoining twitter, I had mixed emojis.— John Mayer (@JohnMayer) February 1, 2014
The 36-year-old musician admitted in 2011 why he gave up tweeting.
"I realized about a year ago that I couldn’t have a complete thought anymore, and I was a tweetaholic," he told Rolling Stone.
"I had four million Twitter followers, and I was always writing on it. And I stopped using Twitter as an outlet and I started using Twitter as the instrument to riff on, and it started to make my mind smaller and smaller and smaller. And I couldn’t write a song."
As of now, he has 369,000 followers – but we imagine that number quickly rising considering his leading lady likes to mention him!
