Picking a name is never easy — unless you’re Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald! The Counting On couple knew they wanted to give their firstborn son a unique name, and even though he’s now two years old, people are still wondering — what does the name Spurgeon mean?

According to a video posted to YouTube, Spurgeon’s moniker pays homage to Charles Spurgeon, a nineteenth century Baptist preacher, who Jessa, 25, dubbed one of the “heroes from the Christian faith.” Proud dad Ben, 22, added, “He had a big impact on our lives. His writings and his sermons and books are still around today. They just continued to impact many, many people.”

The mother-of-two — who also has a son named Henry Wilberforce, 13 months — added, “We want to give him a strong name, with a lot of meaning,” the mother-of-two explained before settling on Spurgeon. Ben chimed back in, “He is going to have this name for the rest of his life.” Well, that’s usually how names work!

On this week’s brand new episode, Jessa gave Spurgie his first haircut and described the moment as “sentimental.” Ben said, “Spurgeon’s first haircut is kind of a milestone. I think it’s more significant for Jessa than for me.”

For the monumental milestone, the parents tag-teamed: Ben held Spurgeon on his lap while Jessa sat on another chair and trimmed. “The strategy for giving Spurgeon his haircut is to distract him so he doesn’t really know what’s going on,” Jessa explained on the TLC series. “I’m going to try to distract him and then just kind of sneak in there and trim it up.” Ben added, “I think the plan is that I’m going to hold him and turn on a cartoon for him. If we can get him focused on something, then maybe he won’t move his head around a lot or try to grab Jessa’s hand or anything like that. And we should be able to get the job done.” They’re the cutest parents! And now we can all sleep at night knowing what his name means.
