14 Times Mary-Kate and Ashley Left Us All Completely, Utterly Baffled

The Olsen twins have changed quite a bit from their New York Minute days. Since establishing their fashion houses in 2006, the twins' looks have become more high fashion and eccentric. To top that off, many fans have pointed out that their faces are starting to look different, too. The tiny fashion moguls have been tight-lipped on the matter, which has only increased the speculation.

They both only date older men.

Both sisters have a thing for old billionaires. Mary-Kate is married to Olivier Sarkozy, who is 48, and Ashley was previously dating financier Richard Sachs, who's 58. Many fans have judged the women and accused them of having "daddy issues." However, none of the twins have revealed why they share the same preference.

Mary-Kate suddenly doesn't look like Ashley anymore.

What's even more puzzling about their changing look is that the twins don't really look all like twins anymore. Mary-Kate's face especially has been looking strikingly different, so much so that fans think she's either had plastic surgery, a drug addiction, or both. One fan even joked that MK is slowly turning into country star Willie Nelson. We can sort of see the resemblance?

Their weird feud with the Full House cast.

The cast of Full House is notoriously close, from attending each other's weddings to regularly getting together for reunions. However, the Olsen twins are rarely in the picture and stay a good distance away from their TV family. The last time they were all reunited was in 2004. The fashion moguls didn't bother appearing in the show's revival, Fuller House, and Mary-Kate didn't even invite her former castmates to her wedding. What gives?

Their $55,000 pill bag.

Back in 2012, their fashion brand The Row sold these bizarre crocodile purses with prescription pills glued to them. Although the bag was mocked in the press, they still managed to sell a few. Both of Mary-Kate and Ashley's fashion brands tout high-end couture with nothing too flashy or eccentric, but the pill bag was definitely the weirdest thing they ever designed. It was yet-another "hmm?" moment for fans.

They never smile.

Sometime around 2005, the twins stopped smiling and started pursing their lips together instead. However, these days they've graduated to full-on glassy-eyed stares that, frankly, are a little creepy. In fact, their smiles are so rare, whenever they do it, it becomes headline news. The twins themselves have never revealed why they don't smile. Similar to Victoria Beckham, maybe it's a fashion industry thing.

Their obsession with smoking.

We know smoking is an addiction and it's hard to quit, but the Olsens have a love affair with it that goes beyond anything average. In fact, at Mary-Kate's wedding reception she had baskets full of cigarettes everywhere, and according to Pagesix, guests "smoked the whole night."

That time they posed with Nicki Minaj on the red carpet.

The photo when viral when the rapper shared it on her Instagram. Fans pointed out that the twins, 31, looked strangely older than Nicki, who's 35. We guess Nicki isn't much of a smoker?

Their tightknit privacy.

The sisters were everywhere when they were kids, and once they turned 18 and moved to New York City, the twins were set to conquer Hollywood. However, after their film New York Minute tanked and after the girls dropped out of NYU, they became incredibly reclusive. Today, the pair has completely disappeared from the public eye, only reemerging to give interviews about their brands to fashion magazines. It definitely makes you wonder why the twins have shunned the media so much.

They're not on social media.

Because they're so private, the twins don't have a Twitter or Facebook to communicate with fans. In fact, they didn't take their first public selfie until 2016 when they took over Sephora's Instagram account!

Their weird Vine video.

A few years back, a Vine video of the twins staring silently at the camera without moving for several seconds hit the Internet. Many fans were thoroughly creeped out by their vacant stares. It was definitely a weird moment.

Their "coded language."

Earlier this year, fans were creeped out by a video of the twins squeezing each other hands while at a runway show. Fans joked that the pair were setting off nuclear codes, while others dug up an old video of Mary-Kate explaining that she likes to squeeze her sister's hand three times to say "I love you." Awwww!

They always wear overly baggy clothes.

The twins are so notorious for their oversized clothing that fans have coined the term "hobo chic" to describe them. Mary-Kate is particularly guilty of this. However, she has revealed in the past that she wears baggy clothes because she's always cold.

Their younger sister Elizabeth seems so different.

Although the twins were set to take Hollywood by storm with New York Minute, the pair's NYU shenanigans quickly made them tabloid darlings. In the end, the infamy made them give up acting altogether, but their little sister has been thriving in their absence. Although Elizabeth seems so different from her sisters, she told Modern Luxury that the twins are very guarded about their image, while she cares less so.

“I was not caring what I was saying [in interviews] because I’d assumed no one would read it,” Elizabeth said. “That's when we'd have conversations. [Mary-Kate and Ashley] would say, ‘You know, even if you don’t think anyone’s going to read this article, someone might pull the quote later for [something else].’ It’s all part of how you hope someone interprets you, and how they frame who you are and the work you do. They’re very tight-lipped—notoriously so.”

They admitted to never buying anything online.

In a world of Amazon Prime killing retail stores, fans found it a little odd when the twins admitted in The New York Times that they never bought things online — with the exception of Mary-Kate who bought one piece at an online auction.

Their eccentric fashion.

We understand that high fashion is very different from everyday, mainstream fashion, but the twins dress in a way that's so bizarre, it's hard to ignore. Considering the ladies design clothes for a living, it is unusual that they insist on wearing the most baffling clothing choices.
