The two collaborated to create a beautiful, yet dark hit with “Love The Way You Lie” and now they’re back and better than ever with the video for “The Monster,” which was released on Dec. 16.
In the video, Rihanna plays a therapist, while Em plays a patient who reflects on the highs and lows of his careers; he revisits some crucial moments that fans are sure to remember—with allusions to 8 Mile and his Grammy performance with Elton John.
The overall dark video, however, doesn’t gloss over the difficult times either, as there are also references to his failed marriage to his ex-wife.
All the while, Rihanna remains stoic as she listens to Em rap his verses. But she really breaks out—and shines—when she belts out the chorus of the song, bringing the entire video together.
It creates a powerful message that goes along perfectly with the heavy song. But don’t take our word for it—check it out yourself, and see what other people are saying about the video!
