Romario Dos Santos Alves was on a dangerous mission to bulk up his physique, and the Hulk-like results almost cost him his life!
The 25-year-old began injecting synthol — a substance consisting of oil, painkillers and alcohol— into his arms. It started back in 2011, when he moved out of his hometown of Caldas Novas to Goiania in Brazil. It was there he met some buff men at the gym — and they gave him the idea.
“They introduced me to synthol and I got excited about the results – I lost control," he told ‘Barcroft TV.’ “My muscles started to solidify and I couldn’t even inject my arms – they were full of rocks."
It got to the point where Romario became depressed and suicidal. He was scaring small children in public places, and the effects took a toll on his marriage to his 22-year-old wife, with whom he has one child.
“I was hospitalized in a clinic and my wife was six months pregnant – it was just me and her, no friends or family," the former bodyguard explained. “I decided to fix my ways and I never again wanted to take any drugs, we went through a really hard time and almost starved.”
Romario, who some refer to as “the Hulk,” was even scheduled to undergo arm amputation after toxins in the oil led to Necrosis, which is the premature death of cells or bone tissue. He even came close to kidney failure.
Fortunately, doctors conducted a CAT scan and determined they were able to remove the synthol rocks without amputation. He has since stayed away from the substance.
