If Dennis the Dachshund — a formerly obese dog — can get his act together to shed the pounds and get into shape, so can you!
The now six-year-old pup was 56 pounds and an unhappy dog when he first entered Brooke Burton’s life in June 2013.

While he now loves to play fetch, the 27-year-old nursing student says, back in the day, he was unable to walk more than a few feet before needing to stop for breath.
Brooke rescued Dennis from a family member who fed him a diet of unhealthy human food such as burgers, pizza and ramen noodles. She adds he didn’t get much attention — and as a result, he was visibly unhappy. So she knew she had to do something.

“I would say that, after a month of taking care of him, he realized I was helping him,” she explains to the ‘Columbus Dispatch.’
From there, she put him on a strict diet of dry dog food and treated him to more daily exercise. He managed to lose so much weight that he had excess skin that dragged on the floor and even tripped him when walking.

Eventually, Brooke was able to pay for a surgery to remove the extra skin — thanks to donations from a GoFundMe campaign and donations from individuals that were moved by Dennis’ plight.
Today, he weighs a trim 12 pounds — and has a new outlook on life.

“I’ve seen this depressed little dog blossom into a spunky little spitfire,” Brooke says of her pet.
Let this be a lesson to us all: Real change can come if you cut the junk food from your diet and up your cardio!
