The cast of Jersey Shore has some pretty interesting nicknames, to say the least. See how our favorite roommates got their iconic pet names.

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi

The proud mama got her nickname while attending a middle school dance at age 13. During an appearance on The Jay Leno Show, the reality star said her friends got the name from a character in a film. “I was at [the] dance and I was the first one to kiss a boy out of my friends,” Snooki said in the interview. “You know Save The Last Dance, the movie? Snookie[sic] was the DJ. So the Snookie character was very funny, very outgoing, and my friends just started calling me Snooki. It’s stuck ever since!” Unfortunately, the owner of the Snooki Shop doesn’t love her name as much as she used to. “Now I wish I could change it,” she said during her E! True Hollywood Story, adding, “I miss my name ‘Nicole’ so much.” Girlfriend, it’s your brand! We love it.

Jenni “JWoww” Farley

Not surprisingly, this brunette babe got her nickname because when guys walk by her, they yell, “Wow!” This ultimately led to a coworker calling her, “Jenni Wow,” which later shortened to just “JWoww.”

Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola

In the MTV show’s opening, Sammi reveals that she’s “the sweetest b-tch you’ll ever meet.” So there you have it!

Deena “Blast in a Glass” Cortese

Deena joined the cast on Season 3 and claimed she was a “blast in a glass” — a.k.a the life of the party! In fact, there’s even an Urban Dictionary definition dedicated to the former reality star. It states, “Slang describing a person who is a good and all-around fun time. Origin: Jersey Shore.” LOL. She also claimed she was a “walking holiday,” which has the same meaning — and that she was, indeed!

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino

Mike was hanging out with his boys on the beach — shirtless, of course — when a girl walked by and admired his six-pack. She made a comment (while standing next to her not-so-thrilled boyfriend), which caught the attention of one of Mike’s friends. He exclaimed, “Looks like we’ve got a situation here!” And the rest, my friends, is history.

Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio

Pauly began spinning tracks at just 16 with the hopes of becoming a DJ — the “D” stems from his last name — DelVecchio. Being the successful DJ he is today, it makes perfect sense!
