Leah Messer-Calvert is a staple in the Teen Mom franchise, so it was pretty surprising when she revealed she's quitting the show -- and all the fame and fortune that comes with it. But now, her reasons behind this dramatic decision have been revealed.
The 22-year-old doesn't want to lose her 4-year-old daughters, Ali and Aleeah, who she's currently battling her ex-husband, Corey Simms, for custody.
"Leah’s final court date is coming up, and her behavior on the show made her look really bad to the judge,” a source told Radar Online.
The reality star has been accused of abusing prescription drugs, and even admitted on the show that she felt like a "druggy" when she was taking medication for her extreme anxiety. After the episode aired, Corey held it against her in court and fought even harder for their custody of their daughters.
“We think Leah could be taking powerful painkillers including Lortab and Percocet,” an insider revealed. “They are very easy to get on the streets in her hometown.”
While Leah insisted she was only taking medication temporarily, the whole situation ended up being a wake-up all. She knew quitting the show was her only way to ensure she has a chance in this messy custody battle.
“Leah’s daughters are her number one priority,” a source told Radar. “Now that the show could lead her to lose custody, she’s ready to leave her reality TV life behind.”
