First we find out about the Lance Armstrong scandal, and now this!

Manti Te'o, the Notre Dame defensive linebacker and Heisman Trophy finalist, made national news in September when reports came out that his girlfriend and grandmother had passed away on the same day. After that, he had an incredible season with the Fighting Irish-- one which he attributes to his personal losses.
Fast forward to Wednesday, Jan 16, when news broke that Manti’s supposed girlfriend was actually fictional and her existance was all part of an elaborate hoax. “This is incredibly embarrassing to talk about, but over an extended period of time, I developed an emotional relationship with a woman I met online," the football star said in a statement to ESPN. "We maintained what I thought to be an authentic relationship by communicating frequently online and on the phone, and I grew to care deeply about her. To realize that I was the victim of what was apparently someone's sick joke and constant lies was, and is, painful and humiliating."

So, one major question remains: Is Manti a victim or a con artist?
The world has been buzzing since the news broke, and twitter’s favorite comedians have headed online to shed some light on this confusing situation:
Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet: If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck , it's a made up dead girlfriend story for publicity.
SNL star Seth Meyers: These Te'o jokes are all very funny but let's all try and remember that a person who never existed is dead.

Late Night Host Jimmy Fallon: Manti Te'o may have made up a girlfriend then lied about her death. Or as he put it, “I'm gonna have to talk to Oprah aren't I?" #fallonmono

Tosh.O star Daniel Tosh: sorry i've been gone for so long. still very upset that my imaginary girlfriend who died was cheating on me.

Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson: I wonder if Manti Te'o ever got the "Thank You" bouquet that Lance Armstrong sent him.
