MTV found themselves in hot water after they aired a 23-second “tribute” to Robin Williams, which was awkwardly sandwiched between Fifth Harmony’s acceptance speech and a TRESemmé ad.
Luckily, all was right in the world after the Emmy Awards last night when the late comedian’s close friend Billy Crystal honored the fallen superstar with a heartfelt memorial and intimate stories of their friendship.
“As genius as he was on stage, he was the best friend you could ever imagine: supportive, protective, loving,” Billy said.
“It is very hard to talk about him in the past because he was so present in all of our lives. For almost 40 years, he was the brightest star in the comedy galaxy.”

After telling some stories that prove Robin was as incredible off-screen as he was on, his friend shared some truly poignant words before transitioning into a montage of some of his greatest scenes and jokes:
“Robin Williams—what a concept.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves (and neither could the VMAs).
Rest in peace, Robin. Thanks for laughs.
