The latest Batman installment out-heroed Spider-Man 3 which held the previous record of $151.1 million made in May 2007 — and is expected to make $220 million in the first week alone. It's also the biggest midnight release, biggest IMAX weekend and biggest single-day take on a Friday. Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker is one reason the movie has done so well, according to Exhibitor Relations' Jeff Bock. "This is really unprecedented, an actor in a blockbuster film dying before the release."
