After pleading guilty in March, Teresa Giudice has been anything but her bubbly self – even avoiding the spotlight and hiding in her home.
Less than three months before sentencing, the Real Housewives of New Jersey star’s paranoia has set in. Friends close to Teresa exclusively tell In Touch that Teresa has been spending more time inside her eight-bedroom $1.8 million Towaco, N.J. mansion – all on purpose.
“She has become extremely paranoid and cut almost everyone off,” a friend tells In Touch in this week’s issue. “She’s like a prisoner at home.”
The friend says that her “spontaneous and outgoing” personality has shifted since now she only speaks to her husband, Joe, her parents and her four kids: Gia, 13, Gabriella, 9, Milania, 8, and Audriana, 4.
Joe and Teresa Giudice leave the U.S. District Court in Newark, N.J. after pleading guilty to charges of fraud on March 4.
“It gets to a point where you’re just paralyzed by it,” another friend tells the mag about Teresa’s unforeseen future. “Teresa is so depressed. She can’t move forward. It’s like purgatory.”
The 41-year-old reality star could be facing 27 months in prison, while Joe could get 46 months after pleading guilty to 41 counts of mail, wire, bank and bankruptcy fraud.
Bankruptcy papers filed on April 8 for the Giudices’ 2009 case show they wiggled out of $13.5 million in debt, repaying creditors just $7,500. Now, Radar is reporting that Teresa “has hardly any income.”
“Her book sales have been very low, and Teresa hasn’t been offered any gigs for paid promotional appearances either,” a source tells Radar.“It’s a foregone conclusion, Teresa absolutely will have to sell her beloved New Jersey mansion. She’s terrified she could end up homeless.”
Teresa and Joe Giudice will be facing their sentencing in court on July 8.
