Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice and her husband Joe Giudice are currently facing federal charges of tax fraud. But they've just gotten a last minute reprieve as their trials have been moved back until February 2014.
That is good and bad news for the embattled Skinny Italian cookbook author and her husband. The trials are being moved because Joe already has another trial - this one for forging documents to get a driver's license - starting next month in New Jersey. Because he's using the same lawyer for both trials, a judge ruled that both cases can't be tried at the same time.
However, that doesn't mean the Giudices should expect an easier time when February rolls around. The judge also said that the delay will help the prosecutors get more time to find evidence and make their case stronger. Uh oh!
Teresa hasn't let her legal troubles get in the way of making money. She continued to film Real Housewives, but she did bring her lawyer with her to the show's reunion, which taped this week, to make sure she didn't say anything related to the case. Most of Teresa's storylines this season have revolved around her strained relationships with sister-in-law Melissa Gorga and ex-friend Jacqueline Laurita.
The 41-year-old mom of four has also been making press appearances to promote her new haircare line, Milania, which is named for her audience-favorite troublemaking daughter.
If Teresa and Joe are convicted, they both face jail time. Joe, who was born in Italy and does not have US citizenship, also could get deported.
Both Giudices reportedly plan to plead not guilty.
