Shortly after Teen Mom OG star Amber Portwood was released from prison, the 24-year-old told ‘In Touch’ that prison “gave her a second chance at being a mother.” And now she’s taking that to heart — by fighting for full custody of her daughter, Leah.
As she explains, her ex, Gary Shirley, has kept the once-troubled mom from seeing her daughter on the days she’s in school — Monday to Friday.

In a clip obtained by ‘Us Weekly,’ she explains, “Since she started school, it’s been weird because he’s been weird. He won’t let me have her on the weekdays she’s in school… Something’s going to happen because I will be getting her.”
Unfortunately, Gary isn’t on board just yet.
He got full custody of his daughter after his ex struck him and was subsequently charged with domestic violence back in 2010. In February, he said he wasn’t ready to reconsider his shared custody agreement with Amber.

“She’s doing a lot better, she’s not like that anymore,” he told MTV after watching the infamous moment she hit him.
“I have to say I’m very proud of Amber because of the difference now. I’m not saying she’s a bad person, I’m not [saying] that at all. She was dealing with a lot… [Our custody agreement] is gonna stay the way it is forever. It’s already been three or four years since I’ve had custody.”

But Amber won’t back down so easily.
In the clip, she tells Dr. Drew, “This just started, because I wasn’t going to be doing anything about the custody. I think maybe communication first and then after that, we’ll see what happens, and if he doesn’t want to budge, I’ve just got to do what I’ve got to do.”
To see how it all plays out, tune into ‘Teen Mom OG’ tonight, April 6, at 10 p.m. on MTV!
