Just days after In Touch Weekly exclusively revealed that Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer lost primary custody of her twin daughters, Dr. Drew Pinsky — who hosts the Teen Mom reunions — broke his silence on how she’s coping.
“I know it’s going to be devastating for Leah. Leah loves her children. She is a dedicated mother,” the 57-year-old said backstage at The Rachael Ray Show. “And if you saw the last reunion show, which is the last time I had contact with her, I believed she was making some progress.”

At the reunion show in question, which was taped in July, she feuded with Corey Simms — her ex-husband and the father of her five-year-old twins Ali and Aleeah — and his wife, Miranda.
Dr. Drew explained the tension could be a good thing.

“One of the signs I noticed was that the people around her — like her ex-husband and his new wife — people around her were stating to really come down on her. When that happens, that’s a sign to me that the identified patient is getting better,” he said.
“I told Leah that I thought that was a good sign, and that she should just learn to tolerate it. This is when they’re really going to come down on her, but to just focus on her treatment. Which she was willing to do.”

After she completed a stint in rehab, Dr. Drew made it clear he was optimistic about Leah’s future — and he still is.
“I don’t know if this recent issue with the child custody is going to set her back, but I certainly wish her the best,” he said. “She is working very hard and this has been a terribly painful and stressful time for her. So, let’s all wish her the best.”
