Tarek El Moussa and Christina El Moussa have sadly split.

The couple — who co-host the hit HGTV show Flip or Flop — announced their separation after seven years of marriage with a joint statement to TMZ on Monday, Dec. 12.

"[We] will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together," Tarek, 35, and Christina, 33, told the entertainment news outlet.

According to TMZ, the duo's marriage began to publicly crumble in May when police responded to "a call of a possibly suicidal male with a gun" at the couple's Orange County, Calif. home. Eyewitnesses reportedly told authorities Tarek fled the scene with a gun while Christina ran from the house crying and shaking.

In their split statement, Tarek and Christina — who married in 2009 and are parents to two young kids, daughter Taylor and son Brayden — simply referred to the May incident as an "unfortunate misunderstanding."
