This week's Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains featured a double elimination —
and on the Heroes team, it came down to an injured James and the man he
called "Superman in a girdle" — Colby. Although James promised to start
adhering to the group's bizarre "banana etiquette" and staged a "Survivor
Olympics" on the beach to prove he was still fit, the tribe opted to go with the healthy man. If it seems like James, who was downed by injury in
Micronesia as well, is cursed, he agrees. "My first time experiencing the
inside of a hospital was in Micronesia! Every time I get on Survivor I get
hurt," he tells In Touch. "It’s like the cameras are my kryptonite!"

Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains
Eliminated March 24: James Clement
How was this time different?
This time, there were different strategies. Some people had more of an old-school method, so they wanted to stand out in a challenge. You can’t stand
out in the beginning. You have to work as a team. We should have been a unit and certain people were just doing their own thing early in the game, which hurt us.
You often seemed really frustrated. In retrospect, do you think you were too harsh with some of your outbursts?
I’ve recently learned that I have tone issues. My girlfriend, my mom, Amanda have told me that I come across like I’m trying to bully them. Apparently my voice makes it seem like I’m arrogant. If you really know me, that’s not how I am. So I’m working on it, but I don’t regret it because I was just saying, “Let’s work as a team.” I don’t know how that got misconstrued. I wasn’t trying to tell everybody what to do. Because we would be so far ahead and doing so well, and it always seemed like someone would go off and do their own thing, and we’d lose.
You put your all into the challenges and ended up injured. How is your knee now?
It’s coming around. It’s got a little jungle rot in there — something’s
still not right, so I’m still dealing with it. I’m just not used to not being able to work or work out. I’m kind of going crazy. I didn’t realize how active I was! My nerves are bad!
Do you think that’s the only reason you were sent home?
A little of both. Candice took her opportunity. She did the best she could
to raise herself up in the alliance and the game. If I didn't get
hurt, I would have stayed there, or if Candice hadn’t won that immunity, she
probably would have gone home.
Did you expect it?
I really wasn’t surprised. I was hurt. I really couldn’t do what I could to
make the team stronger. I honestly wanted the strongest team, and after that
run on the beach, I told everybody, “Let go of this alliance talk. If you
really feel that Colby will be better, go with him.” I understand.
Who are you rooting for now?
I’m always rooting for Amanda. I’ve only done the show with Amanda. I don’t
think I could have done the show without her. She calms me down, makes me
focus and tells me about stuff like banana etiquette. Which is crazy to me,
Do you wish that Amanda had told you about “banana etiquette” earlier?
Banana etiquette is completely preposterous. It’s just another way for
people to politically maneuver themselves into position. I don’t feel like
every time I get a banana I have to offer you a banana. If you’re hungry,
get your own banana! Especially if I’m limping toward it. If you ask me,
I’ll get you one, but I don’t feel like I should go around offering.
Amanda seemed very dependent on you again. How does your girlfriend feel
about seeing how close you two were?
My girlfriend has no worries. Amanda is a beautiful, strong woman and I
enjoy being around her, but she’s probably the first girl I’ve had as a
friend. I wouldn’t have anything sexual with her; she’s just good people, and I enjoy being around her. She helps me out in life and the game. People use the brother-sister analogy when they see us together, and that’s pretty much how it is.
Would you do the show again?
Yes! I love reality television and the game of Survivor is the best one. I
love the editing aspect, how they made me look like an evil villain this
time, that I turned awry and went bad during filming. It kind of upset my
mama, but I love it! I’ll do it now. I’ll be limping, but I’ll have fun with it.
Maybe next time you can be on the Villains' team.
Hey, that would be even better!
