Less than two weeks ago, Sum 41 rocker Deryck Whibley opened up, revealing he hit “rock bottom” after his alcoholism landed him in the hospital. And he’s already making plans to return to the stage!
“Hey everyone, I just wanted to thank you all so much for sending gifts and all of the compassion and support you have shown me,” he wrote on his blog on May 24.
“It really means a lot to me in this time of recovery. I will be better soon and back out on stage before you know it. See you all soon.”

On May 16, he blogged about his struggle, and revealing at that point he had spent a month in the hospital:
“The reason I got so sick is from all the hard boozing I’ve been doing over the years. It finally caught up to me. I was drinking hard every day. Until one night. I was sitting at home, poured myself another drink…when all of a sudden I didn’t feel so good. I then collapsed to the ground unconscious.”
He goes on to explain he was hospitalized and sedated for an entire week.
“My liver and kidneys collapsed on me. Needless to say it scared me straight. I finally realized I can’t drink anymore. If I have one drink the docs say I will die. I’m not preaching or anything but just always drink responsibly. I didn’t, and look where that got me.”
Since making that first post and sharing the harrowing photos above, Deryck already looks significantly better, thanks in part to the support of fans—including one fan in particular, his ex-wife, Avril Lavigne.
“Spoke to Deryck today. I am so proud of him. He is family to me and always will be,” she tweeted.
