A 42-year-old man who married his biological daughter and had a baby with her has been granted bond. Steven Pladl was released on Tuesday in Virginia on a bond of $28,000, but his 20-year-old daughter, Katie, still remains behind bars.

The pair was arrested in January after Katie's mother, Alyssa — and Steven's ex-wife — discovered their incestuous marriage and reported it to police. In November 2016, Steven and Alyssa legally separated, and she later told authorities that her husband slept in Katie's room on the floor the month before she moved out. She added that she didn't know Katie and her then-husband were involved in a sexual relationship until she read one of their children's diary entries.

After their separation, the 11-year-old switched between staying at her home and the home her ex-husband was in with Katie. In the entries, the child depicted Katie as being pregnant and described Steven as "Satan." They wrote that because Katie was "human" and Steven was "Satan," their baby would be "half-demon."

In July 2017, Katie shamelessly took to Instagram to reveal she and her father tied the knot with the caption, "Nothing fancy, just love #justmarried #simplewedding #pregnancy." Since then, she's shared photos of their son on social media, often gushing about his milestones. Prior to her arrest in January, she wrote, "First Feeding ?#firstsolidfood #baby #fatherandson."

The duo became romantically involved after reconnecting in 2016 when she was 18 years old. Steven and his wife placed Katie for adoption when he was 22 and she was 17.

Though their case is definitely unique, studies do show that children and parents separated during their development years often experience attraction when reunited. It's called Genetic Sexual Attraction.

Steven has been told to stay away from Katie, who has not yet been granted bond. She is currently awaiting a court date.
