Argentine soccer sensation Diego Maradona is denying accusations of assault after a video was published of him allegedly hitting his ex-fiancée Rocía Oliva.
The 24-year-old secretly recorded the video on her cell phone. According to one translation provided by an Argentine television station, the 53-year-old can be heard yelling at his younger partner to get off her phone. When she asks, “Why can’t I look at my phone?” it appears he responds by striking her, as she begs, “Stop! Stop! Stop hitting, Diego!”
According to the Daily News, he denied the allegation of assault, telling Argentine journalist Marina Calabré, “Yes, I threw the phone, but I swear I have never raised my hand against a woman. The episode started and ended like that. I admit to throwing the phone, but nothing else.”
This comes months after Diego made headlines for slapping a journalist who allegedly winked at the mother of his child.
