Even though they try to be one big (seriously big) happy family, the Brown family from you guessed it, Sister Wives, has no shortage of divorces and side-eye worthy relationships. And we're not even talking about their respective ties to Kody! The wives themselves have had their own share of romantic drama outside of the Brown family. Janelle was previously married…and was Meri's in-law.

We know, we know, this explains everything. Though the show chooses to blatantly ignore this factoid, back in 2015, it was revealed that after two years of marriage Janelle divorced Adam Clark Barber, Meri's brother. Oh, and the divorce happened in 1990, even though Janelle claimed to fall for Kody when they met in 1989. "When he walked into the room I looked at him and had that feeling of remembering something I had forgotten," she wrote in her official Sister Wives bio. " It was a singular experience."

So singular, clearly. She also threw on that she had, "known Meri’s family for several years before the night I met Kody."

Well, yeah.

Meri had her whole infamous catfishing scandal.

While Meri wins points for being the OG wife, she strayed off the path hard in 2015. To recap for the few uninformed, it was revealed that Meri had been involved in a six-month online flirtationship with a man named "Sam." But even more mortifying was when plot twist, Sam was revealed to be a woman named Jackie Overton and Meri was being catfished. Private photos, sexts, and voicemails were released on Jackie's blog and to make a long story short, it was a whole thing.

"This catfish was just planting things in my head and telling me how horrible my family was and specifically how horrible Kody was," Meri later said on a 2016 episode. "That was one of the reasons why I didn’t want him around. I was just angry."

Robyn left an abusive husband before marrying Kody.

Robyn didn't even want to marry college sweetheart David Jessop, but an unexpected pregnancy forced her hand. "When I found out I was pregnant, I was devastated at that point. I was really scared. I spent the next nine years trying to make it right," she said on an episode. "I was trying so hard to love my husband at the time." She later made claims that she left her first marriage because of abuse.

As it would seem, David wasn't exactly father of the year, either, having no real relationship with Robyn's three kids. "He doesn’t [see the kids] out of choice," Robyn once tweeted. "I am not making them choose. I can’t control whether my ex chooses to take his time with them."

Christine doesn't have any of these issues, tbh.

She pretty much unceremoniously married Kody after being friends for a three and a half years. "I always wanted to be a third wife, and I figured it would be the one that would be the easiest," she confessed. Bless.
