With the 20-year anniversary of Sir-Mix-A-Lot’s hit “Baby Got Back” quickly approaching, In Touch reached out to the rapper to see what he’s been up to. We covered everything from who he thinks has the best behind in Hollywood to his views on plastic surgery.
Q: Did you ever think nearly 20 years later, “Baby Got Back” would still be so celebrated?
A: I had no idea. I wrote “Baby Got Back” because of my disapproval of the girls in those Spuds MacKenzie Budweiser commercials during the Super Bowl with those skinny women. I was like, “This is not what brothers dig, come on now, we like curves.”
Q: Why do you think the song became so popular?
A: It came along in the middle of gangsta rap so it was refreshing. Then MTV banned it so it became the forbidden fruit and it never stopped growing.
Q: The song kicks off with, “Oh, my, god. Becky, look at her butt,” so we are dying to know, who was Becky?
A: There was a girl I was dating and she did an imitation of the stereotypical Valley girl accents and we just named the character Becky. So she did the talking at the start but she actually had a beautiful butt.
Q: So as a butt aficionado, who in Hollywood do you think has the hottest curves now?
A: I think Ice-T’s wife Coco has a perfect 10 and so does Nicki Minaj. Oh, and Kim Kardashian is perfection. She is exactly what I need in my life.
Q: You know she is about to get married, right?
A: Well, if she is thinking about cheating, I’m her man.
Q: So many women are getting plastic surgery now, what are your thoughts about it?
A: I don’t like plastic surgery at all. It’s kind of shallow that people do it. Although I realize that I am part of the reason they do it, so there is a bit of hypocrisy there, I just think it is weird.
Q: So whom do you like musically now?
A: Don’t laugh, but I have come to respect and actually admire Lady Gaga.
Q: Why would we laugh?
A: I realize people dismiss her as Britney Spears or somebody, but that girl has talent.
Q: So what is next for you?
A: I have a record coming out next year and I’m asking everyone in Twitter land to help me with lyrics, the subjects, the cover and just everything.
Q: Awesome, anything else?
A: I just launched a new Facebook game with Giant Thinkwell called Mix-N-Match where fans can ask me questions and I interact with them directly.
