Shannen Doherty has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The 44-year-old’s diagnosis became public after she filed a lawsuit against her former management firm — Tanner, Mainstain, Glynn & Johnson — claiming they neglected to pay her medical insurance without her knowledge or consent, TMZ reports.

According to court documents filed in LA earlier today, the firm allegedly ignored an invoice for a payment of her insurance premium in 2014 and as a result, she was dropped from the provider and couldn’t re-enroll until 2015.
During the time she was without coverage, she didn’t see a doctor regularly — which the Charmed actress says had been her routine when she had regular coverage.

After getting her insurance back, a doctor discovered “invasive breast cancer metastatic to at least one lymph node” in March of this year.
According to the legal docs, doctors told Shannen the cancer spread last year when she was uninsured — and she blames her business manager for permitting the insurance lapse.

According to TMZ, the lawsuit suggests she will likely have to take serious medical action — including a mastectomy and chemotherapy — which could have been avoided had the cancer been caught earlier.
Our thoughts remain with Shannen during this difficult time.
