Talk about having some big shoes to fill!

At the NBC Upfronts in NYC today, Seth Meyers opened up to In Touch about being Jimmy Fallon’s successor on Late Night when Jimmy takes over for Jay Leno as the host of The Tonight Show in 2014.

But there's one thing that Seth, 39, refuses to do on the show.

“Obviously, I’m smart enough to know that there are many things in my skill set that don’t even come close to the same things in Jimmy’s skill set. I promise I won’t do anything worse than Jimmy – such as sing. When it comes to things like that, what I mean is that I’m not going to try and take on things that Jimmy does and try to make them better.”

So what is the new host looking forward to most?

“Putting together a staff,” he tells In Touch. “What you learn at SNL is that you’re only as good as the people you surround yourself with, so that will be really fun.”

The funnyman, who’s famous for hosting Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update, says he’ll be concentrating on his last season with the hit NBC sketch show before diving into Late Night.

“[Jimmy’s] mostly just said congratulations, which is really nice,” Seth said when we asked him if the SNL alum has given him any advice yet. “I’m lucky that the guy who had the job before me is a friend who’s only going to be a couple floors away when panic sets in.”

While he’s not entirely sure how he’ll make the show his own, Seth admits it definitely won’t be the same as his predecessor's.

“I’m not starting from what he has. I’m sort of taking away from that,” he tells In Touch. “I think I’m going to start with a blank canvas and add to it that way.”

And the comedian feels there’s no use fixing something that’s not broken.

“You know, [Late Night] has been a format that’s been around for a really long time, so I’m not someone who’s coming in and going, ‘I’m going to build a better mousetrap,’” says the actor, who’s following in the footsteps of Jimmy, Conan O'Brien and David Letterman. “I hopefully will build a working mouse trap.”

Will you watch Seth as Jimmy’s replacement when he takes over in 2014?
