Selena Gomez is used to keeping quiet about her personal life—but after one Instagram commenter said the unthinkable to her, she couldn’t help but break her silence.
“Honestly, I don’t speak up much because it’s simply always taken out of context,” she captioned a screenshot posted on Instagram. “But I don’t take bullying well. I have seen too much to not say anything.”

In the screenshot, the 21-year-old addressed a commenter who reportedly wrote, “Please kill yourself and burn in hell with cancer because your fans are ugly retarded sluts!” on one of the starlet’s pictures.
Selena was firm but much more polite in her response.

“The comment you left about cancer was absurd,” she wrote on one of the bully’s pictures.
“How distasteful of a young woman. I have gone through that battle with fans and family members. You can dislike someone but to wish something that could happen to you or your family is uncalled for sweetheart. You won’t be winning ‘anyone’s’ heart that way. Trust me. Educate yourself a tad more. God bless love. Be an amazing woman. You’re beautiful.”

This is not the first time the former Disney Channel star has taken a stand against bullying on Instagram. After one fan said she wanted to kill herself, others encouraged her, even writing, “Cut, cut, cut.”

Luckily, Selena was there to intervene.
“This is ridiculous,” she wrote at the time.
“My fans don’t do this to others. That’s not what I stand for so you can gladly stop being a fan of me. I only encourage love, confidence, kindess.”
