Well, this is awkward. Angelina Jolie has announced her triumphant return to acting — and seemingly slammed her ex-husband Brad Pitt in her statement. “I am now the breadwinner for the family so it’s time,” the 42-year-old star told Deadline earlier this week.

The mom-of-six — who confirmed her split from Brad, 53, last September after two years of marriage — will star in the upcoming Maleficent Disney sequel. “We have been working on the script and this is going to be a really strong sequel,” Angelina continued. She previously starred as Sleeping Beauty villain Maleficent in 2014 and the film was the biggest commercial success of her career thus far.

Angelina’s return to the big screen comes after a two-year hiatus during which she wrote and produced the Netflix biographical historical thriller First They Killed My Father. Her last on-screen role was in the 2015 romantic drama By the Sea in which she co-starred with Brad. “I’ve taken over a year off now, because of my family situation, to take care of my kids,” she recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “I look forward to having some fun with [the Maleficent sequel].”

This interestingly isn’t the first time Angelina has made headlines for speaking out about her breakup with Brad. “It’s been difficult. I don’t enjoy being single,” she recently told the Sunday Telegraph. “It’s not something I wanted. There’s nothing nice about it. It’s just hard. Sometimes maybe it appears I am pulling it all together, but really I am just trying to get through my days.”

Brad has also candidly opened up about his separation from the Oscar winner. “It’s hit me smack in the face with our divorce: I gotta be more. I gotta be more for [my children]. I have to show them,” he said in May. “I say that as someone who’s let the work take me away. Kids are so delicate. They absorb everything. They need to have their hand held and things explained. They need to be listened to. When I get in that busy work mode, I’m not hearing. I want to be better at that.”

Now, as In Touch reported earlier this week, Brad is seeking a bifurcation which could speed up the divorce process before the couple’s custody and asset arrangements are officially settled. “Restoring his status to a single person isn’t about Brad going out on the town and dating, but about his beginning a new chapter,” a source told In Touch.
