Viewers of Keeping Up With the Kardashians watched in despair when Scott Disick and Kourtney Kardashian struggled with Bonnie Disick‘s grim illness, which ultimately lead to her death in October 2013. Scott’s mother had been unwell for a long time, but he always hoped her condition would improve. Tragically, the family was hit with another death three months later when Scott’s father, Jeffrey Disick, died in January 2014.

In the wake of their deaths, the Talentless founder, 37, has focused on his healing while coming to terms with them no longer being around. In April 2020, Scott checked himself into a Colorado rehab facility briefly to deal with emotional issues after losing both of them far before he expected to.

“He’s so appreciative of the effort [Kourtney] is making to help him on his road to recovery,” a source exclusively told Life & Style in June. “Scott says he doesn’t know how he would’ve survived the past few weeks without Kourtney’s support.”

“They’re just coparenting at the moment, but the feelings they have for each other haven’t disappeared,” the insider added.

In an April episode of KUWTK, he spoke out about his sorrow for the first time in a while and revealed it’s been an ongoing battle. “Losing my parents is not an easy subject for me to talk about. It puts me in a very vulnerable place, to remember them and think about them,” he said. “It’s definitely not easy, the fact that I don’t have my parents here. And I miss them a lot, but I think the more I talk about my parents, the more my kids will feel connected to them and remember them.”

Kourtney, 41, and Scott were by Bonnie’s side when she died at a hospital in Long Island, New York. The duo and her mother Kris Jenner attended Bonnie’s services.

After the news about their deaths broke, Scott revealed how devastated he was when Kourtney told him she was pregnant for the third time on the E! reality series.

“I barely feel like I can take care of myself, I am hanging on by a string here,” Scott said in response to the pregnancy news. He admitted he was “angry” he lost his parents at such a young age.

“I definitely feel horrible that I put Kourtney through a rough time, especially now that she is pregnant,” he continued on the show. “But I honestly didn’t want to get back to reality, and I didn’t want to face anybody. It’s just a lot on my plate right now, especially with everything else that I’ve dealt with in the past year.”

No matter what, it’s clear Scott wants his parents to be remembered. In July 2020, the father of three shared a special moment with his youngest son, Reign, while looking at old photo albums, which featured pictures of his parents. The special moment was filmed for a bonus scene during Keeping Up With the Kardashians‘ 18th season.

“I don’t think I was really ready to talk about my family but now I think the more I talk about my parents the more my kids will feel connected to them and remember them,” Scott said during his confessional. “That’s the only way that they’re gonna ever feel that connection.”

It’s not an easy thing to cope with, so we’re glad he’s taking it one day at a time.
