Sarah Silverman is best known for her raunchy, hilarious comedy routines. But when her dog "Duck" died this week, she couldn't come up with any jokes.
The 42-year-old Jesus Is Magic star penned a heartfelt letter to Duck on her WhoSay page.
"Duck (Doug) Silverman came into my life about 14 years ago," she wrote. "He was picked up by the State running through South Central [L.A.] with no collar, tags, or chip." The dog was taken to a shelter, where Sarah adopted him.
The Queens of Comedy Have Been Crowned
Sarah said that over the last few years, Duck had become deaf, blind, and arthritic but still remained happy and loving. A few days ago, he stopped eating and drinking, which is when she knew she had to "let him go." She was with Duck when a vet put him to sleep.
The post, which Sarah calls an obituary for her dog, ends with:
14 years. My longest relationship. My only experience of maternal love.My constant companion. My best friend.
Our thoughts are with Sarah and anyone else who's ever had to say goodbye to a pet.
