Roseanne star Sara Gilbert came out publicly in 2010, but on The Talk, the 38-year-old star admitted that there was one special person in her life who knew way before that: The Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki!

Long before she was featured as a recurring character on his hit sitcom, Johnny guest starred on Roseanne as the boyfriend, and eventual husband, of Sara’s character.

Sara revealed that their off-screen chemistry wasn’t nearly as strong.

"I thought [Johnny] was super cute and had a total crush on him, and we started dating,” she told the women of The Talk.  “He would come over, and we would make out, and then I would start to get depressed."

Luckily—Sara made it clear it was nothing personal, and Johnny was nothing but supportive.

"Johnny felt badly, I think, and started to take it personally and didn't know what was going on,” Sara explained. “So I eventually told him that I thought it was about my sexuality and he was super sweet about it."

Sounds like a great friend—even if they didn’t work out romantically. Sara added that, “"No one knew at the show ,and Johnny held the secret the whole time. I was always so scared if it came out."

Although she has since become open about her personal life, she explained that she still gets nervous about being so honest, admitting that she still feels “really scared.”

Overall she lives a happy life, but reiterated that things aren’t always perfect.

"We do often say things like, 'It gets better' – and it does get better,” she said. “I have an amazing life, but I want people to know that there can still be a struggle with it, and that's OK.”
