Sad news: Sam and Cat star Jennette McCurdy has lost her mom, Debra McCurdy, after a battle with cancer.

The 21-year-old Nickelodeon star is reportedly devastated by her mother's death. Debra had been fighting breast cancer for most of her daughter's life and despite going into remission the disease returned.

In 2011, Jennette published an essay in the Wall Street Journal where she opened up about her mom's disease.

"My mother, the constant optimist and effervescent, sprightly woman I know her to be, is caged along with this hideous beast they call cancer," she wrote.

Later, Jennette added, "If you’re reading this and you were one of those people who thought, “young actors have perfect lives,” I hope that you will think differently now. We do have challenges. We do cry. We are experiencing difficult things. But we will continue to smile and crack jokes because, as entertainers, even if we’re privately struggling with painful trials, our job is to make others forget theirs."

Hopefully, Jennette's new boyfriend Andre Drummond can help her through this difficult time. The Detroit Pistons basketball player flirted with Jennette on Twitter, and sparks flew when the two met in real life.
