Jonah Lomu — a legend in the game of rugby — has died. He was 40-years-old.
The New Zealand athlete’s wife Nadene confirmed his passing with a statement.

“It is with great sadness that I must announce my dear husband Jonah Lomu died,” she said, per TMZ. “As you can imagine, this is a devastating loss for our family and may I ask that our privacy, especially the privacy of our two very young boys, be respected as we take them through this traumatic time.”

While he was once considered one of the greats, he was forced to quit the sport due to a rare kidney infection.
Despite a transplant in 2004, he experienced renal failure in 2011.
