You don’t know what happens behind closed (elevator) doors—unless it happens to be captured on security footage and shared for all to see.
Still, that’s what Janay Rice, wife of former football pro Ray Rice, has to say about her personal situation, which has recently received mainstream attention and coverage.
Yesterday, Sept. 8, a video was released of the former Baltimore Ravens running back punching his wife in the elevator of Revel Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City—delivering a blow so hard she was knocked out and had to be dragged out of the elevator.

In response to the new footage of the February incident, the NFL suspended the 27-year-old indefinitely. And now his wife is speaking out—and is defending “the man [she] loves.”
“I woke up this morning feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I’m mourning the death of my closest friend,” she wrote on her private Instagram, the Baltimore Sun reports.
“But to have to accept the fact that it’s reality is a nightmare in itself. No one knows the pain that [the] media & unwanted options from the public has caused to my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret, every day is a horrible thing. To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his ass [off] for all his life just to gain ratings is horrific.
“THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don’t you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you’ve succeeded on so many levels. Just know we will continue to grow & show the world what real love is! Ravens Nation we love you!”
This is the first time Janay has spoken since the incident occurred in February, when she apologized for her “role in that night.”
