Ray Rice is asking for forgiveness — and a second chance.
In a candid new interview on ‘Today,’ the suspended NFL player sat down with his wife, Janay Rice, and opened up about his domestic abuse case and the major “mistake” he made after it took place.
“I made a horrendous mistake not apologizing to my wife,” the 27-year-old explained this morning, Dec. 2.

The interview comes shortly after a judge overturned the running back’s indefinite suspension from the NFL. In September, he was dropped by his team, the Baltimore Ravens, and ultimately suspended by the league after video surfaced of him assaulting his then fiancée in the elevator of an Atlantic City casino.
Janay maintains her husband never laid a hand on her prior to the February altercation — and even apologized for her role in the situation during a press conference held earlier this year. Though Ray has since been silent, he insists he takes full responsibility for not only the incident, but also the consequences that followed.

He even enlisted himself a spokesperson against domestic violence, and is dedicated to preventing others from experiencing the pain his family has faced.
“Domestic violence is a real issue in society,” he told viewers. “We could take our one bad night, it just happened to be on video, but we are truly sorry to the people that are really going though it. It’s a real problem. And I know when the time is right, I know my wife wants to help, I know I want to help.”

In addition to advocating for victims of abuse, Ray hopes a return to the football ball is in his future as well.
“I took full responsibility for everything that I did, and the only thing I can hope for and wish for is a second chance,” he said.
