Prison Break star Lane Garrison started his jail sentence today for the drunk-driving accident that killed a teen — but still doesn’t know how long he will have to serve.
Judge Elden Fox decided Lane should have a 90-day assessment in state prison before he is sentenced. He was ordered back to court on October 31, and could face nearly 7 years.
Lane, 27, who grew up with Jessica and Ashlee Simpson in Texas, was in tears throughout much of the hearing. When he addressed the parents of the dead boy, Vaghan Setian, he said: “This is an out-of-body experience. I relive that night every day.
“I can say I am so sorry you lost somebody. I promise you I did try to contact you every day and the PSA (Public Service Announcement was not a publicity stunt.”
“If we just thInk about our actions beforehand…” he continued before his sobs cut him short. “We can’t bring him back.”
Vaghan was killed when Lane’s car hit a tree as they were on their way back to a party on December 2 after driving to get more alcohol. A 15-year-old girl in the car suffered a shattered arm and pelvis.
Lane, who played Tweener on the Fox show, had more than twice the legal level of alcohol in his blood and cocaine was also found in his system.
Judge Fox told Lane: “You may be a celebrity but I didn’t know who you were. The fact you may have notoriety, I don’t really care about. You’ll be treated the same as everyone else.”
The Beverly Hills court was packed with friends and family of the dead boy, all dressed in white T-shirts with Vaghan’s picture on the front, and the words: “Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today,” on the back.
