With Justin Bieber’s recent spiral out of control, some may be asking where his mother, Pattie Mallette, is. The answer? She’s right where she’s always been… right behind him—and she thinks you should get behind him, too.
In a new interview, Pattie, 37, offered some insight into Justin’s current behavioral struggle—albeit cryptically.
“If Justin is struggling, don’t kick him when he’s down or condemn him—pray for him,” she told The Sun.
The struggle that she’s most likely referring to is Justin’s recent run-in with the law. The 19-year-old singer’s home was raided last week after police officers received a search warrant to look for evidence for an egging incident that occurred Jan. 9.
While police failed to find anything related to the incident—which caused $20,000 worth of damage to a neighbor’s home—it did result in the arrest of Justin’s friend, Lil Za, who was busted for drug possession.
According to additional reports, Justin’s home was allegedly covered in illegal, recreational drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Pattie, who gave birth to Justin when she was only 17, has battled her own demons. According to her book, Nowhere But Up, she began experimenting with drugs and alcohol when she was 14, and by 16, she was dealing drugs.
Shortly before Justin was born, she attempted suicide and landed in a mental health facility. While there, she embraced Christianity.
So it’s not that surprising that as Justin faces his own challenges, she’s turning to faith.
“I ask that people keep me and Justin in their minds,’ she said. “I pray for him every day.”
