For the 16th season of Dancing With the Stars, pro dancer Peta Murgatroyd is sharing the inside scoop with In Touch readers— everything from behind-the-scenes show info to her dancing partner, former Bachelor, Sean Lowe. In Week 3, Peta talks about Sean’s difficulties in practice and disciplining the man she claims she knows "inside and out." Check back every week for more scoop from Peta! Last week I think we did so much better than our foxtrot in week one. I think Sean got a whole newfound confidence after getting the first show out of the way and his Jive was so much better. He was extremely nervous and extremely awkward before I got my hands on him and let him know that he can move his hips and he can move his shoulders without looking strange! But last week he was smiling and having fun and he didn't look nervous. Our biggest competition right now is Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough... they're pretty fantastic. She looks like a professional dancer out there. And Zandaya, she's incredible. She's got it all and she knows how to perform and she's just got this amazing dance flexibility. It's phenomenal. She's full of energy, she's full of life. Those two are the ones to watch!
Practice this week is tough and I am being hard on Sean. I'm very vocal with him, moreso than any other partner that I've ever had. I raise my voice, I scream and assert myself a whole lot more. By me raising my voice a little bit, it just adds that extra push and he is responding well to me being cut and dry with him. He calls me boss which makes me feel good!
The first day of practice is always horribly frustrating because you have to throw away everything you learned last week and just begin again. Sean is very eager to understand the concept of cha cha cha, but it's just not possible, so I have to be patient and he has to be patient because it's a learning process and how he copes being thrown in a new direction every week.
We have been rehearsing for 7-9 hours a day, splitting the time up between the mornings and evenings. I never let Sean leave unless I'm the one that's tired. Unless I'm exhausted and I literally cannot teach or talk any longer, than we can go home.
We're usually gym freaks. We both go every single day, but right now we're just exhausted. Sean feels like he's losing a lot of muscle mass because he's doing 8 hours of cardio a day, but I think his body looks great. His diet has been okay. We feel like we constantly need sugar throughout the day to keep going, keep our minds active, keep endurance and keep our physical ability up. Sugar and Red Bull. It's really, really bad, but when we go out for a meal, like today, we have salads and chicken and kept healthy. Because Sean used to be a fitness model, he knows what to do to keep himself in shape and he usually has a very strict routine. So we are being strict during the week and then Monday nights are our night to hang out and all do something fun together. Whether the dance went well or the scores are low or high, it doesn't matter. We all go out for dinner, have a couple of drinks, and have a bit of a party.
I definitely know who Sean is as a person now. I know him inside and out. I know when he's feeling bad. I know when he's feeling a little bit down. I know when he's frustrated. I know when he's ecstatic, on top of the world. I know when he's thinking about something. We spend so much time together and we go through so much in one week that I feel like he's just like my brother, my family now.
I am excited for this week dancing the cha cha cha, it's going to be very interesting, very fun. Everyone is going to have a laugh at our routine. It's going to hopefully be quite spectacular and I can’t wait!
